  • No, I did not take this pic in some lab.  I took this in a restaurant.  In Shibuya (one of the 23 wards in Tokyo), there is this prison themed bar/restaurant called The Lockup.  The food they serve there are thus supposedly going along with the prison theme.  I don't know why a flask and test tubes are part of the prison theme unless it is common for prisons to use prisoners as guinea pigs for scientific tests... (I really hope that is not the case).

Anyway, my thoughts about this drink are:
    1)  Way too sweet.  I think the base was some sort of Calpico liquor.  You were able to mix the different colored stuff in the test tubes but they were all some sort of fruity flavor (one was orange juice and another was melon daiquiri, as far as I remember)

    2) This can't make you drunk.  It was like a juice.  The tequila shots that followed were what got me.

    3) They were trying too hard with the prison theme when they made this drink...

This sure can't make my friend jealous.  But I know the mini-skirted policewomen cosplay waitresses would.

  • Hello.

Work's a little slow right now, but I guess I should enjoy it while it lasts because a whole slew of cold calling is waiting for me next month.  That will definitely not be fun.

I guess in conjunction with my facebook, I should describe a little more about the food I've eaten lately.

This is mostly to make my good friend jealous, which I love doing with food because there really isn't any other way I can make him jealous.... other than my presence in Japan as a whole.

Okay.  Above is what is called "tsuke-men."  It's a type of ramen but the difference is the noodles are separated from the soup.  The soup is also much more concentrated than regular ramen.  This is because when you eat this thing, you dip the noodles in the soup and then eat it.  For any flavor to come out of it, the soup needs to be more concentrated.  When you want to drink the soup you use the soup broth kettle given to you at a later time and thin the soup, thus making it "potable."

This specific shop lets you choose the amount of noodles from small, medium, large amounts with no price difference.  This is great especially when you're really hungry (obviously).

The soup is more or less fish based, or that's what you notice most about the soup when you taste it.  I'm sure there's chicken or pork broth in it, but it's the fish that makes the soup really good.

All in all, it's definitely worth a try, and it's very close to where I live so if any of you come visit me, I'll take you there.

By the way, I've joined an affiliate program where if I have my visitors click on a link, I can earn a yen (less than a penny but it's extra income nontheless).  You don't have to buy anything and most of you reading this aren't fluent in Japanese so it wouldn't matter anyway.  Just click the link and close the browser if you wish, but just that lets me get that much richer.  I urge all of you to click.

  • It was just great to be back.

Seeing all of my old friends back in CA was something I really really needed after my many lonely days in Tokyo.

Getting to drive with personal space and comfort was something I needed after months and months of riding packed trains.

All in all, it was a great week.

Congratulations to all my friends who graduated from Cal.  I know firsthand that graduating from Cal is an amazing accomplishment and that fact will stick with you for a very long time.  Just as I had written in my last entry... everyone just assumes you are elite by mentioning that you graduated from Cal (I guess this could be bad sometimes, but good generally).

Also want to let all of you guys I saw in CA this time that I love you guys a ton.  Keep in touch!

  • Financial Statement Analysis is definitely a kind of class I need to take in the future.

Today's Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Modeling training was quite the nightmare.

In other news, it's interesting and flattering when a doctor I'm interviewing asks where I went to college, and after finding out I went to Cal responds, "Wow.  You're super-elite!"

Yeah... right, wait until you get to know me better. =P
